Determined to Innovate, Committed to Principles
NRI celebrates its 50th anniversary in FY2015. The former Nomura Research Institute (NRI) was born from the Research Department of Nomura Securities, and Nomura Computer Systems (NCC) from the Electronic Data Processing Division of Nomura Securities. The two companies drove innovative initiatives as pioneers in their respective fields. In 1988 the two merged to more flexibly offer a diverse set of services from navigation to solution, always one step ahead of the times. In 2001 NRI was listed in the First Section of the Tokyo Stock Exchange. The NRI Group will continue to discern the ever-changing future of Japan and the world, and press forward to create a better society in the future.
Improving and strengthening our overseas bases
As of March 2015, the NRI Group has 22 overseas sites and around 1,000 employees working outside of Japan to offer flexible, speedy services locally. In FY2014 we opened a business support team for the financial industry in Mumbai, India. For five consecutive years we have been among the top 10 in FinTech Rankings, a ranking of global companies that offer financial IT services. We have collaborations with an IT service company in the Philippines and consulting companies in Germany and Indonesia, and are promoting other partnerships with local companies across the world, from Asia (including China) to Europe (including Russia).
Creating a foundation for providing high-quality services
The NRI Group works collectively to ensure its services are always valuable and of high quality. In order to offer safe and reliable system solutions that support social infrastructure, we continuously improve the quality of the design, development, operation and maintenance of information systems, data center operations, and information security. We also constantly improve the work environment for our employees who engage in this work. In FY2014, the quality of NRI's operations was recognized at the Tokyo Data Center I, which was the first in Japan to receive the Management and Operations Stamp of Approval from an American private group.
In 2014 the forum held discussions under the theme, "Trail-blazing Our Future."
The NRI Dream up the future Forum has been held for the general public since 2003. The forum invites a variety of experts who are active at the front lines of diverse fields such as economics, industry, culture and science. Together with specialists from the NRI Group, these pioneers hold creative discussions regarding issues that Japan and the world will face in five to ten years' time, and what we must do now in order to overcome the issues. In FY2014 the forum was held in Tokyo, Osaka and Nagoya, and was attended by approximately 5,000 people.
Developing and running programs to help the next generation form an outlook on their career path
The NRI Group puts extra emphasis on development of human resources as part of its efforts to contribute to society using the knowledge and expertise cultivated through its business. We create and offer original career education programs for children, such as the "Secret of Information Systems That Support Increased Convenience" program for elementary and junior high school students, the "NRI Consultant-for-a-Day" program, "NRI IT Strategy Experience" program, and "Team-Building Training" for high school students, and a program that dispatches NRI employees to schools for lectures and other events. Every year we interact with over 1,000 children and students.
Student Dialogues and Teach Us! NRI Programs
The NRI Group offers opportunities for undergraduate and graduate students who carry our future to think about work and our society in the future. We hold Student Dialogues throughout the country that encourage students to broaden their views by learning information on the industry that cannot be acquired through recruitment activities alone, and thinking about their own career paths. Furthermore, in celebration of NRI's 50th anniversary, we launched the Teach Us! NRI project in 2015, where employees visit universities to talk about their expertise and work experience.
Thoughts and proposals for the future from university, international and high school students
Every year since 2006, NRI puts on the NRI Student Essay Contest for university students, international students and high school students. The aim of the contest is to inspire students to think about the future of Japan and the world. A total of 883 essays were submitted in the FY2014 contest, with many innovative and encouraging proposals towards a brighter future.
Awarding innovative efforts in line with the NRI Group's corporate philosophy
Each year, the Dream up the future Awards are presented to recognize communication activities and proposals that are in line with our corporate philosophy, "Dream up the future," as well as employee activities that contribute to the development of new businesses and technologies.
Expressing gratitude to the families that support our employees
The families that support our employees are of utmost importance in our effort to become a company that offers fulfillment in work.
Our NRI Bring Kids to Work! Day, going on since 2009, is an event that invites families to see NRI Group's work environment and learn about its business. It was held three times in FY2014, with over 350 participants including employees and their family members. The children enjoyed exchanging business cards with board directors, taking the quiz, and interacting with employees.
