NRI + Nomura Securities = Youth study groups towards business process innovation that utilizes digital technologies

To get an insight for 2025 to 2030, Nomura Research Institute (NRI) is working with Nomura Securities to establish a place for young employees to engage in creative discussion about how new technologies like robotics, AI, and the blockchain will change current work processes.
The need for business process innovation utilizing digital technology
As the digital revolution proceeds on a global scale, innovation that utilizes digital technology is becoming increasingly common, even in Japanese companies. Technologies like robotics, AI, and the blockchain are gathering attention in accelerating work processes, and verification tests for things that have utilized these technologies are underway in many different industries. Most of these, however, have been developed under the assumption that they will be used to accelerate or replace current work processes. In order to succeed in the future, however, NRI must have more of a mid- to long-term perspective and establish new business processes with new technologies.
In order for companies to consider these new business processes on their own, learning new technologies and environment suited for verification testing are required. But that poses hurdles from a cost perspective (building the process) and technological support perspective.
Verification tests: From actual hands-on experience to ideas for practical application
In the past, NRI has engaged in projects like “NRI Mirai (Future) Garage” and “NRI Hackathon” and worked with our clients to figure out how to utilize IT (digital technology) to build new business mechanisms, and solve existing issues.
For this new project, NRI has decided to work with Nomura Securities (“Share”) to establish study session meetings in which employees can discuss the utilization of new technologies. This project is born out of NRI and Nomura Securities’ long-standing relationship of trust.
In this project, NRI will provide, for a set period of time, the environment and technological support necessary for the utilization of new technologies. Young employees selected from both companies (“Next Generation”) will come together to learn about new technologies (“Next Technology”), and discuss ideas for utilization (“Next Business”), outside the framework of existing processes.
Verification tests based on “From actual hands-on experience to ideas for practical application” concept will be conducted after one to three months consideration.
The fruits of their discussions will be communicated to the outside world, through submission of their ideas to contests and other events.
In the future, NRI plans to invite IT startups to these meetings, and establish study session meetings with other clients as well.
