Japan's forthcoming national ID number system will require companies that handle identifying personal information (information that can identify a specific individual) to upgrade their information security beyond existing confidential information controls. This report provides an overview of recent revisions to various guidelines for protection of identifying personal information and discusses requirements for highlevel safeguards.
