Tokyo, December 2, 2024 – Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; President & CEO Kaga Yanagisawa, “NRI”) is proud to announce the launch of a new managed service based on AWS Outposts1, a hybrid cloud service offering by Amazon Web Services (AWS). The service, now available at NRI's data centers, incorporates NRI-specific functionalities to address the growing demand for secure and sovereign data management while leveraging advanced cloud technologies.
AWS Outposts extends AWS infrastructure and services to on-premises environments, enabling companies to securely store and manage data in compliance with stringent data sovereignty2 requirements. NRI's new service builds on its extensive AWS expertise and operational knowledge, offering comprehensive solutions tailored to the unique needs of its clients.

Since achieving certification as an “AWS Premier Tier Services Partner” in 2013 - the highest designation available to AWS partner companies - NRI has gained extensive expertise in AWS-related consulting and system development. Additionally, NRI has leveraged its own data centers to provide comprehensive, round-the-clock services for the operation of client systems.
The new service builds on this foundation by incorporating distinctive features informed by NRI's operational experience in its data centers. Combined with AWS Outposts utilization, this enables more secure and reliable data management for client companies.

1. Comprehensive Managed Services Ensuring Data Sovereignty

This service enables the realization of data sovereignty by introducing AWS Outposts into company data centers, while clarifying the location of data storage. In addition, the service ensures seamless and secure system operation by providing integrated management for security measures, system monitoring, and troubleshooting.

2. Standardized Templates for Enhanced System Efficiency

Pre-configured templates for system setup, security protocols, and operational frameworks streamline system building and maintain consistent quality.

3. Logical Partitioning for Optimized Resource Utilization

NRI enables shared use of AWS Outposts among multiple systems through logical partitioning, facilitating efficient resource allocation and flexible scalability to meet fluctuating demand.

4. Support for AWS Outposts Deployment

Leveraging its deep operational knowledge, NRI provides comprehensive support, including system design, configuration, and implementation of AWS Outposts at client data centers.

5. Integrated Multi-Cloud Operations

In NRI’s data centers, it is possible to seamlessly connect and use AWS Outposts with on-premises systems and the dedicated public cloud3 with low latency. Moreover, utilization of NRI’s managed service “atlax”,4 which offers total operation and monitoring of multi-cloud environments including public clouds, ensures optimal operation not only of AWS Outposts, but of user companies’ entire systems.

As of November 2024, NRI employees hold over 1,500 AWS certifications across the organization. Looking ahead, we will draw on our robust partnership with AWS to expand AWS-based managed services and offer ongoing multi-cloud capability acquisition and comprehensive support, thus making substantial contributions to the advancement of our client companies’ businesses.
