Tokyo, February 12, 2021, Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. (NRI), a leading provider of consulting services and system solutions, announced that it was selected as a Silver Class Company for the first time in the S&P Global1 Sustainability Award 2021. NRI was selected as Bronze Class in the 2020 Award.

About the Sustainability Award

Every year, S&P Global assesses the sustainability of major companies worldwide based on the three aspects of economy, environment and society, and awards the top 15% of companies in each industry Gold, Silver and Bronze Class according to their scores. It also publishes the Sustainability Yearbook2 containing an overview of these results.

In the 2021 awards, 7,032 of the world’s largest companies in 61 industries were evaluated, and 70 of those companies (including 6 Japanese firms) selected as Gold Class, 70 companies (including 6 Japanese companies) selected as Silver Class and 90 companies (including 8 Japanese companies) selected as Bronze Class. Furthermore, six companies including NRI were selected as companies with an excellent record in the Silver Class or higher in the IT services industry .

Why NRI was Selected as Silver Class

Of 20 of the evaluation items in the IT services industry, we believe that NRI’s high scores in “disclosure of tax strategy,” “acquisition of third-party assurance of social data” and “a wide range of initiatives related to human resource development”, and its previous nomination to the CDP A List, the highest evaluation in CDP3, contributed to NRI being selected as Silver Class.

NRI has also been selected as a constituent of the Dow Jones Sustainability World Index and the Dow Jones Sustainability Asia Pacific Index, two indices operated by S&P Global that evaluate sustainability of companies .

In its Medium-Term Management Plan (2019-2022), the NRI Group established the target of “Solving social issues through value co-creation” and specified that it will conduct business centered on the co-creation of three social values. “Co-create a thriving future society by driving new value”, “Co-create an ideal society by effectively utilizing its resources” and “Co-create a safe and secure society by advancing its infrastructure.”
The NRI Group aims to continue promoting the realization of a sustainable society and the sustained enhancement of corporate value by solving social problems in the future.
