Tokyo, March 13, 2020 – Nomura Research Institute, Ltd. (Headquarters: Tokyo, Japan; Chairman, President & CEO Shingo Konomoto, “NRI”) will introduce the world's first "Oracle Cloud" dedicated region provided by Oracle Corporation, using it as NRI's dedicated public cloud. Operations are set to begin in Q2 2020.

Public cloud adoption in Japan's financial institutions has surged, crucial for digital transformation. However, the need for secure, company-controlled governance remains strong. To address this, NRI is pioneering a new approach: setting up a dedicated public cloud within its own data centers, ensuring full control while maximizing cloud benefits and competitiveness.

NRI has become the first in the world to adopt the "Oracle Cloud" dedicated region and started its implementation in NRI's data centers through the extensive collaboration with Oracle and Oracle Japan.
By exclusively introducing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, a public cloud service, into its data centers, NRI can transition its on-premises Oracle Database environment to a secure public cloud environment.

NRI plans to progressively develop this dedicated public cloud environment, named the "NRI Cloud Fusion Section." The features of the "NRI Cloud Fusion Section" will include the following:

  1. NRI operates its private cloud environment, the NRI Cloud, ensuring high safety standards and compliance with financial controls. By using a dedicated public cloud environment in its data centers, NRI will enhance the usefulness and competitiveness of its infrastructure services while maintaining company control.
  2. Combining various cloud services provided by the public cloud with NRI's own services will enhance the value of its services.
  3. This will enable multi-cloud operations, including public clouds outside its data centers, and achieve unified service management across the multi-cloud environment.

Additionally, NRI is committed to developing engineers with advanced skills in utilizing Oracle Cloud Infrastructure. NRI was the first in Japan to obtain the highest-level certification, Oracle Cloud Infrastructure 2019 Certified Architect Professional, and already has the largest number of Oracle Cloud Infrastructure certified professionals in the country. NRI will strongly support customer system migration to public clouds and the utilization of cloud services.
