Throughout his 40-year career, Mr. Katayama’s focus has been on the research and strategy behind the governance of new technologies in financial services. Mr. Katayama has worked on projects across the world to study and propose best practices, and has recently been focusing on stablecoin and CBDC, serving as a member of multiple working groups in Asia Pacific, and speaking/presenting at events hosted by major financial institutions and media such as Coindesk. Mr. Katayama joined NRI in 1989 as a researcher. Outside of Japan, he has an extensive network and has led projects in San Francisco Bay Area, New York and London. From 2018 to 2021, he served as Associate Director-General at the Center for Financial Industry Information Systems (FISC), leading a team of experts to conduct research projects on best practices and regulations/guidelines for the advanced use of information technologies and its risk control among financial institutions globally.
