Science Based Targets initiative(SBTi)

Science Based Targets (SBT) are greenhouse gas emission reduction targets set by companies for the next 5 to 15 years in accordance with the Paris Agreement (an agreement that aims to limit global temperature increase well below 2°C above pre-industrial levels while pursuing means to limit the increase to 1.5°C) adopted at the 21st Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP21). These targets must be consistent with reduction scenarios based on climate science (IPCC).
SBTi is an initiative that requires companies to set SBTs and is jointly managed by CDP, the United Nations Global Compact, the World Resources Institute (WRI), and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The validity of the targets set by companies is evaluated, and SBTi certification is granted.
The NRI Group's greenhouse gas emission reduction targets were certified by SBTi for the 2°C target in September 2018 and the 1.5°C target in February 2021.

JISA Low-Carbon Society Action Plan

The Japan Information Service Industry Association (JISA) recognizes that efforts to address global warming should be undertaken by all industries from a long-term perspective. In 2007, JISA established a voluntary action plan titled "Measures for Global Warming Mitigation in the Information Service Industry" to focus on CO2 reduction over a five-year period from FY 2008 to FY 2012. This plan has been promoted as the “JISA Voluntary Action Plan for CO2 Reduction” since 2008. Although this plan ended in FY2012, but a new plan, the “2nd JISA Voluntary Action Plan for CO2 Reduction,” was formulated with updated reduction targets for FY2020 and is currently being promoted. Following the change in the name of the government initiative from “Voluntary Action Plan for CO2 Reduction” to “Low-Carbon Society Action Plan,” JISA also changed the name of its plan to “JISA Low-Carbon Society Action Plan” and has been in place ever since.
The "JISA Low-Carbon Society Action Plan" sets targets for offices to reduce electricity consumption per floor area by 2% in FY2020 from the base year (FY2006), and for data centers to reduce the 'total power consumption of the entire center'/'total power consumption of IT equipment in the entire center' by 5.5% in FY2020 from the base year (FY2006).
NRI has been cooperating and participating in this initiative since the formulation stage of “Measures for Global Warming Mitigation in the Information Service Industry."
